KVOX widget – stream music in VOX

as some of you already know, VOX has a widget that allows you to stream your or someone else's VOX audio collection, KVOX

with the KVOX player widget you can either stream an user's music by entering their name (whatever is after http:// and before .vox)  in the box labelled "user" in my case, http://mariser.vox.com,  I'd enter  mariser.  you can tick "neighbors" to also stream the selected user's neighbors music collections.  then tick "shuffle" and click on the button "Launch".  if you rather stream music from a group like Calliope No. 8 or MP3Meme, or any other, just enter the group's name on the box labelled "Group".    you'll get several lines of code *; this is your widget.

to get the widget in your VOX sidebar,  first copy all the lines of code generated on the last step. then click on "My Vox", choose "Design"; on the "Design" page choose "Customize your sidebars" a window named "Choose Content Modules" will open,  tick the last option, "embed" and click on "configure".  on the box that opens paste the code you copied under "widget code".  you can give a title to your widget under "widget title" but that is optional, the KVOX widget will work either way.  click OK, the widget window will close, and click the "Apply" button on the "Choose Content Modules" window.

*as an example, here is the code generated when I made a widget to stream the music from the Calliope No. 8 group:

<div height="330" id="player">
        <object width="155" height="300"
        <param name="movie" value="http://geo-vox.com/vox/mp3player.swf&quot; />
        <param name="menu" value="false" />
        <param name="quality" value="low" />
        <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" />
        <param name="flashvars"
          value="file=http://geo-vox.com/vox/playerwidget.php%3Fuser%3Dcalliopeno8.groups&repeat=list&displayheight=155&showdigits=false&linktarget=_blank&logo=http://geo-vox.com/vox/kvox.png&link=http://geo-vox.com/vox/playerwidget.html" />
        <embed src="http://geo-vox.com/vox/mp3player.swf&quot; width="155" height="300"
          menu="false" quality="low" bgcolor="#fffff"
          type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage=
          "http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer&quot; />
        <BR><font face="arial" size="-3" color="red">Get a sidebar player for your Vox <a href="http://geo-vox.com/vox/playerwidget.html">here</a&gt;

the text in red above is what you need to copy to create the widget in your sidebar

many thanks to Dave, who posted the link to the KVOX player widget

  1. :-P right back at ya.I doubt it…the VOX overlords and ladies don't know a nobody like me. besides, you've had your own KVOX for a while. I know, I often have it open in a different tag. two things I don't quite get about KVOX:- is there a maximum number of songs that can be streamed in a KVOX widget? I noticed the Calliope No. 8 one it doesn't include everything that has been posted.- is there a way to embed more than one KVOX in the sidebar? I don't think so, but maybe there is a special way to do it.

  2. Yeah, I think it's 50 songs. so when you post something new, the oldest stuff gets the boot, which sucks. I never thought about posting 2. I would think though that it would just do the same latest 50 songs for both of them though. BUT you could probably do yours and someone else's, which would be very cool. But you couldn;t really have them playing at the same time.
    You can put a bunch of widgets in there. The only thing is, you can only really have one title. well, Bevester told me how to put 2 in, he figured out what code was for the title and added it between widgets. Anyway, like for my stat counter, I thought I had to get rid of my KVOX in order to embed that, which I did for a while (and was sad :( ) but he told me to just post the code in after the first one when you go to "edit" the sidebar widget, and then they are both over there.

  3. oh, 50 song limit. check. yeah, I thought like having two (or three. or four) different ones and play one at a time be cool.

  4. yeah, at least you would get a choice. I think you can also just have it stream random stuff from all of Vox, but then you really run the risk of having to listen to Pure Shit.
    and Arashi. whoever they are, Japan's NKOTB I guess.
    Good idea though, I might have to cop someone else's Vox and add it.

  5. I guess for the time being, I'll just keep the create a KVOX widget link handy and rotate KVOXes in my sidebar. creating'n'embedding them is easy enough even if my instructions make it sound complicated.
