Ringworld – NaBloPoMo 2010

whither the Ringworld

The thing is roomy enough: three million times the area of the Earth. It will be some time before anyone complains of the crowding
Larry Niven, in an interview

Ringworld by Larry Niven

among all the planets and other space objects dreamed up by world-builders, Larry Niven‘s Ringworld is the 800-lb gorilla in the room: nothing has approached the scale of the Ringworld, 93 million miles in radius…600 million miles long.

the Ringworld itself is the main character of Ringworld – what is it, what is it made of, how it came to be?  to answer these questions, a crew of four (two human, one Kzin*, one Pierson’s Puppeteer) make the voyage to the Ringworld.

* with a tip o’ the hat to our own Kzin, Kzinti

NOTE:  there are three sequels and three prequels to Ringworld; I haven’t read any.

  1. This is totally new to me. I googled the title and the reviews were all enthusiastic. I’ll have to look for this one when I go book hunting again.
