fqotd: I suuuuuck

from Brown Amazon

fqotd:  five things you suck at doing

1.  anything that requires any *craft* skill: sewing/knitting/painting/drawing/playing music.  my hands are useless. compounded by the fact that I really wish I could and envy/admire folks with those skills

2. singing. as they say 'round here: "can't carry a tune in a bucket".  I do like singing but quite privately, as to not cause any bleeding eardrums

3. parallel parking.  'nuff said

4. getting things done

5. blowjobs. and not in a good way either. but I'm getting better, I hope

I heart Dan Savage

I am more and more convinced that Dan is the most rational person in America.  read his response  to the flap raised when ex-NBAer Tim Hardaway let it be known that he "hates gays"
here's Dan:

"No one has to like homos. You can sign off on full civil rights for gays and lesbians
without having to think we’re nifty or be all that comfortable with the idea of sharing a
locker room with us. (Hell, I’m sometimes not comfortable sharing a locker room with other gay men.) The gay and lesbian civil rights movement would make more strides if we could
separate the issue of liking us from the issue of not discriminating against us.
"

Amen, Dan, Amen.  read the entire wonderful piece
here
of course, now that Hardaway has apologized, the point Dan is trying to make gets diluted again.  it bears repeating:

The gay and lesbian civil rights movement would make more strides if we could separate the issue of liking us from the issue of not discriminating against us

a poem for the day

taken from Robert Pinksy's anthology of love poems in Slate

BODY, REMEMBER

Body, remember not only how much you were loved,
not only the beds on which you lay,
but also those desires for you
that glowed plainly in the eyes,
and trembled in the voice—and some
chance obstacle made futile.
Now that all of them belong to the past,
it almost seems as if you had yielded
to those desires—how they glowed,
remember, in the eyes gazing at you;
how they trembled in the voice, for you, remember, body
.

Constantine Cavafy (1863-1933) in a poem translated from the Greek by Rae Dalven
